The saddest thing in the orphanage is when one of the children reaches adulthood (at age eighteen). First, the soon-to-be adult makes a pact with The Shadow Man that he or she will never harm a child and if they do, he will come for them. A feast is held in order for everyone to say their goodbyes. Once things are all said, the leaving adult receives enough money to start their new life in the city.
